The reason is that private loans may offer better interest rates and loan terms if you have good credit or you have a cosigner with good credit. Thus it may be a better deal for you to look at getting a private loan. The other option, and this is a common option, is if you don’t have enough federal loan funding to pay for college. A student may want a private loan because quite often the federal loans don`t cover the full cost of tuition. Other students may be unable to get a government loan. However, if like most new college students, you don`t have good credit, you will need a cosigner. However for some students, this is impossible. Maybe you don`t have any family to help cosigner or maybe you don`t want someone else to be held liable for your own debt.
